| RESUMO: Este trabalho foi conduzido no viveiro da Embrapa Cerrados, em Planaltina (DF), com o objetivo de avaliar a viabilidade da enxertia de mudas de mangabeira (Hancornia spp.) pelos métodos de garfagem lateral à inglesa simples, borbulhia de placa com janela aberta e borbulhia de escudo com lenho. A realização da enxertia ocorreu durante a estação chuvosa de verão. Os porta-enxertos apresentavam diâmetro do caule entre 0,5 e 1 cm a 10 cm do solo e foram produzidos em sacos plásticos de 20 x 30 cm. Para a obtenção dos enxertos, foram utilizadas quatro plantas-matriz em bom estado vegetativo, com folhas maduras nas últimas brotações e sem frutos. | RESUMO: A seleção de porta-enxertos para nanismo tem sido um aspecto importante no programa de melhoramento de manga na região do Brasil Central. As cultivares de manga para exportação Tommy Atkins e Haden, embora produtivas, com frutas de coloração excelente e polpa sem fibras são vigorosas e de porte elevado, o que dificulta os tratos culturais e colheita. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar o efeito de copas e porta-enxertos no crescimento da planta, no rendimento e na qualidade dos frutos da manga. O experimento foi implantado em novembro de 1990 numa área de 4,0 ha. | ABSTRACT: The mangaba (Hancornia spp.) is a native fruit and latex tree of wide spread occurrence in the Brazilian Savannh, Pantanal, Amazon, and Atlantic Coast from Amapá to Espírito Santo States. It is also found in the neighbouring countries of Paraguai, Bolívia, Peru and Venezuela. This specie has a great potential due to its low caloric fruits which present a special taste and flavor and are much appreciated by the local population such as fresh fruits, juices, icecream, fruit-jelly and liqueur. | ABSTRACT: The pequi (Caryocar brasiliense Camb.) is a native tree from the Brazilian savannah. Its fruits have special taste and flavor and are used for preparing hot dishes which are much appreciated by the local population. The remaining native plants are not enough to supply the increasing demand for this fruit, leading to interest in its cultivation. Hence, much research is needed, mainly the appropriate sexual and vegetative propagation methods. | There are few regional studies attempting to compare the asexual reproductive output of marine populations, particularly when they are exposed to different environmental conditions. In this study we compared Caribbean and Southwestern Atlantic Palythoa caribaeorum populations in terms of ramet production, the minimum colony size for fission, and the relationship between fission frequency and colony size. Fission process was quantified in Ponta Recife and Praia Portinho, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and in Punta de Betín, Colombia, during the summer (December-January) of 1997 and 1998, respectively.
